Bus Driver Float - This position offers Health Insurance Benefits
Currently: Days and hours as needed - currently 180 days per year,
6 hours per day
Reports to: Director of Operations or designee
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Ohio driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Must meet all school bus driver requirements set forth in State law and by the Ohio Department of Education.
- Demonstrated competence for assigned responsibilities.
- Industrial or institutional experience in facilities maintenance preferred.
- Valid boiler license where required.
- Certification of good health signed by a licensed physician.
- Residence in the taxing district of Alliance City Schools is preferred.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES & JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Obeys all State and Local traffic laws and all rules and regulations as outlined in the Ohio Pupil Transportation Rules and Regulations Handbook.
- Observes all mandatory safety regulations including the mandatory use of seat belts.
- Inspects the bus each day according to the Ohio Pre-trip Inspection regulations.
- Enforces the adopted Board of Education Discipline Policy and reports all undisciplined students in the appropriate format to the appropriate District administrator.
- Maintains an up to seating chart and route sheets for all routes.
- Operates the assigned bus over the route and time schedule assigned by the transportation department.
- Discharges students only at authorized stops unless approved by the Director of Operations or designee.
- Transports only authorized students unless given specific permission by the Director of Operations or designee.
- Provides transportation when needed for all extra trips.
- Notifies the bus garage dispatch immediately in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
- Reports all accidents, injuries, motor vehicle accidents or other safety concerns immediately to the bus garage dispatch.
- Cleans the interior of the bus daily and the exterior as needed.
- Parks the bus in the designated area.
- Attends all school bus suspension or expulsion hearings as directed.
- Maintain and submit all forms and records as required by the Director of Operations or designee.
- Report daily to the Director of Operations or mechanic on the appropriate forms any safety or mechanical defect of the vehicle.
- Use the CB radio only when necessary for official school business and in accordance with District guidelines.
- Maintains the highest standard for safety and cleanliness while performing the duties according to all Federal, State, Local and Administrative guidelines and regulations.
- Keep the bus in clean, safe and maximum operating condition.
- Maintain a friendly helpful attitude toward students, employees and the public
- Never leave in an emergency situation without specific authorization from the Director of Operations.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attend meetings and in-services as required by Board Policy, the Superintendent or designee, or the State Department of Education.
- Ensure the safety of the students and report any safety concern, confrontation, complication or conflict immediately to the Director of Operations.
- Follow all district policies and procedures as defined in the employee code of conduct and negotiated agreements.
- Interacts in a positive manner with staff, students, parents and the public.
- Maintain respect at all times for confidential information.
- Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy.
- Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation.
- Access and respond to e-mails on a daily basis.
- Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner.
- Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations, Superintendent or designee.
EQUIPMENT & OPERATION KNOWLEDGE:
- Telephones and copy machine
- Computer system and software programs
- Working knowledge of all transportation equipment including school bus, wheelchair lift (if applicable), CB radio, etc.
ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Occasional interaction among unruly children
- Frequent repetitive hand motion
- Frequent excessive sitting during assigned workday
- Frequent requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see (ability to see color), read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, climb, kneel, and stoop
- Frequent requirement to lift, carry, push, and pull various items up to a maximum of 70 pounds
- Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles or dangerous chemicals
- Frequent operation of a vehicle under normal and inclement weather conditions
- Frequent requirement to travel, e.g., to meetings, etc.
- Occasional evening/weekend/summer work
